Stay Cool During A Heat Wave

A heat wave is a period of abnormally hot weather. It occurs when the temperature rises above normal for a significant period of time. In a severe heat wave, as your body tries to cool down, extra strain is placed on your heart. This can lead to heart related illnesses. Respiratory problems may also occur due to poor air quality during this time, so it is extremely important to take all necessary precautions.

Barcelona Heat Waves

Barcelona is on heat wave watch in its summer months of June, July and August. During a heatwave, temperatures can rise to over 35° Celcius (86° Fahrenheit) in the shade. This is about 10 degrees above the average for the summer period. In Barcelona, it is considered a heat wave when the maximum temperature exceeds 33.1ºC (91ºF) for three or more consecutive days.

The start of this summer in Barcelona kicked off with a severe heat wave for Europe and Spain in the last week of June. Record breaking temperatures occurred in many countries and cities.
